Goals Galore for the U15's
By Lee Lawrence
A fantastic display from the U15's and another 3 points.
A beautiful sunny day with barely any wind made for a perfect day for a game of football.
Both teams started rather scrappily and for the first 10 minutes it was an even contest. Then Tameside girls midfield clicked into gear and found their passing game. Some neat interchanges led to the Failsworth defence being carved open as Georgia latched on to a Chanelle through ball and finished calmly to put Tameside 1 up.
Some more good work in midfield and the ball landed at Georgia's feet who then played a nice through ball which Abbie muscled her way onto and finished well to make it 2-0.
A few minutes later and the game, as a contest, was virtually over as Sophies shot was well saved my the Failsworth keeper but the rebound was buried by Georgia.
The girls were pretty much in full flow now and Failsworth were struggling to cope with the passing and movement of the midfield 3, Chanelle, Holly M and Sophie. With Ella making some strong runs on the right and Georgia doing the same on the left, with Abbie proving a real handful for the Failsworth defence. This dominance led to Sophie showing the opposition a clean pair of heels and burying the ball into the top left hand corner.
Another neat finish from Sophie made it 5 after more good work from Chanelle.
Tameside then made a few changes with Xara coming on at left back and Holly C up front with Abbie dropping into midfield and it didn't take Holly C long to make her mark with a cool finish to make it 6 after even more good work from Ella on the right.
Tameside were running riot now and Holly C added another to make it 7 at the break.
Some fine football from the midfield and forwards will catch all the headlines but the defence also deserve great credit as they coped brilliantly with everything Failsworth threw at them. Megan and Ellie kept both Failsworth's wide players in check and Kira organised the back line superbly with Savanna having another really strong game beside her, keeping Failsworth's chances to a minimum making it a relatively quiet day for Lucy in goal but everything she needed to do she did well.
Martha came off the bench and ran her socks off on the right wing giving Failsworth's full back no chance in several sprints and then getting her head up to pick out a team mate.
Considering Jodie and Amber were missing this goes to show a great squad depth which is encouraging for the rest of te season.
During the half time break the coaches asked the girls to concentrate on playing their passing game and took the opportunity to try some of them in different positions this is due to the fact that the club does not enjoy humiliating another bunch of girls who were there to enjoy the game and regardless of the scoreline played in a good spirit.
I am aware there are some coaches who would have been ruthless and would have told their team to go for the jugular and rack up a cricket score but this is not the ethos at Tameside.
The second half began with Holly C continuing to look really strong and completing her hat -trick by once again out pacing Failsworth's defence and finishing well after a fine assist by Martha making it 8 to Tameside.
Fair play to the opposition who continued to try their best, leading to a deserved consolation goal when their forward showed great strength to hold off the defender and gave Lucy no chance at close range.
Holly M who has been taking some superb corners all season without any end result, finally saw some reward, after another fantastic corner created havoc within the Failsworth defence the ball fell to Holly C who finished coolly by lobbing the keeper into the far corner of the net making it 9 -1 to Tameside.
Martha, Georgia, Sophie and Chanelle all produced some great efforts which were saved by the Failsworth keeper who was having a fine game despite the scoreline.
The performance was rounded of with a superb team goal starting in midfield with the ball being passed crisply between players and ending up with Martha who in turn found Georgia to make it 10.
All in all a brilliant all round team performance as all 14 players contributed to this excellent win.
